About the Event

The future of cement plants lies in adopting closed loop designs and integrating new features that leverage climate tech and carbon tech innovations.

The conference promises to be the first of its kind, bringing together three worlds: investors, cement plant technology, and climate tech – under one roof. This collaborative and integrated effort will drive the net zero transition of the cement sector towards a more sustainable future.

Event themes

The climate change challenge: Cement forms the foundational core of concrete; over 4.0 billion tonnes of cement are used annually, making concrete the most widely used man-made material on the planet. The cement sector is a crucial player in decarbonisation efforts, as it is responsible for around 8% of global CO2 emissions. In this light, the cement industry plays a critical role in ensuring the world stays on track towards the 1.5-degree pathway.
The role of technology: The cement industry has the potential to reduce up to 80% of its carbon emissions using existing technologies, without significantly exceeding the capital expenditure budget of the Cement Business Unit. Moreover, such investments could enhance the sector’s competitiveness in a fiercely competitive and volatile market.
Catalysts for change: Decarbonising the cement industry requires expertise and leadership from within the sector due to its complexity. It involves understanding the entire value chain and the role that the industry can play in the circular economy, which extends its impact beyond CO₂ to include other greenhouse gases like methane.
The future cement plant: To decarbonise the cement industry, the key lies in redesigning cement plants as almost closed-loop systems that capture, recycle, and reuse waste gases and materials. This approach involves producing value-added products and using waste from other industries as energy or sustainable supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs).
